Of all the magical supplies scattered around my workspace, oils are probably my favorite. Give me a few bottles of essential oils, a carrier oil, some crystals, and a little creative inspiration, and I am perfectly content for hours.

There is something deeply satisfying about blending oils with intention. Each ingredient brings its own energy, symbolism, and history to the mixture. When combined thoughtfully, they create something greater than the sum of their parts.
Every Summer Solstice, I make a fresh batch of what I call Sunshine Oil. It is bright, cheerful, uplifting, and infused with the vibrant energy of the Sun at its peak. The fragrance alone feels like opening a window on a perfect summer morning.
Whether you use it to dress candles, anoint magical tools, bless a charm, or simply enjoy the scent, this blend serves as a reminder that your own inner light shines just as brightly as the midsummer sun.
Why Create a Solstice Oil?
The Summer Solstice, also known as Litha, marks the longest day of the year. For thousands of years, cultures around the world have celebrated this turning point with bonfires, feasts, dancing, and rituals honoring the life-giving power of the Sun.
The Solstice represents abundance, vitality, confidence, growth, success, and personal power. It is a time to recognize how far you have come, celebrate your achievements, and consciously direct your energy toward what you wish to grow during the remainder of the year.
Creating an oil blend is a simple yet meaningful way to capture that energy and work with it long after the Solstice has passed.
The Ingredients and Their Magik
🥜Sweet Almond or 🌿Jojoba Oil: The Foundation
Every oil blend needs a carrier oil. While essential oils provide the scent and energetic signature, the carrier oil acts as the vessel that brings everything together.
Sweet almond oil has long been associated with prosperity, nourishment, and abundance. Rich and comforting, it creates a blend that feels warm and nurturing.
Jojoba oil is often preferred by magical practitioners because of its remarkable stability and long shelf life. It is lightweight, nearly scentless, and allows the essential oils to take center stage.
Energetically, both oils create a stable foundation, so the choice is up to you. I use what I have on-hand. Just as a healthy plant needs strong roots, magical intentions benefit from a solid base.
🍊Sweet Orange Essential Oil: Joy in a Bottle
If sunshine had a fragrance, it would probably smell like sweet orange. Orange has been associated with happiness, prosperity, success, and celebration for centuries. Historically, oranges were once considered luxury items and were often given as gifts during winter holidays as symbols of wealth and good fortune.
In magical practice, orange is frequently used to attract opportunities, increase optimism, boost confidence, and encourage positive outcomes.
When I smell sweet orange oil, I immediately think of laughter, warmth, and possibility. It is impossible not to smile.
🍋Lemon Essential Oil: Clarity and Fresh Beginnings
Lemon brings a bright, sparkling energy to the blend.
For centuries, lemons have been used for purification and cleansing. Their fresh scent cuts through heaviness and stagnant energy much like sunlight breaking through clouds.
Magically, lemon is associated with mental clarity, focus, truth, and renewal. It helps clear away energetic clutter and makes room for fresh possibilities.
In Sunshine Oil, lemon acts like a beam of sunlight illuminating your path forward.
🍈Bergamot Essential Oil: The Hidden Treasure
Bergamot may be the least familiar ingredient in this blend, but it is one of my favorites. Known for its distinctive citrus-floral scent, bergamot has long been associated with success, confidence, attraction, and personal empowerment.
Many magical practitioners consider bergamot one of the premier oils for prosperity work. It is often included in money-drawing blends, abundance rituals, and spells designed to attract favorable opportunities.
Energetically, bergamot bridges the uplifting qualities of orange and the cleansing properties of lemon. It brings balance, optimism, and confidence to the blend. Think of it as the secret ingredient that ties everything together.
☀️Citrine: Captured Sunshine
If a crystal could embody the Summer Solstice, it would be Citrine.
Often called the Merchant’s Stone or Success Stone, Citrine has long been associated with abundance, confidence, manifestation, creativity, and personal power.
Its golden color naturally connects it to solar energy, making it an ideal companion for a Solstice blend.
Adding a small Citrine chip is completely optional, but I rarely make a bottle without one. I love seeing that tiny spark of sunshine resting inside the oil, quietly amplifying the intention.
Can I Make Substitutions?
Absolutely. I use substitutions all the time! One of the things I love most about oil blending is that it allows room for creativity and personalization. If you don’t have every ingredient on hand, don’t let that stop you from creating your own bottle of sunshine. If the substitutions I’m offering don’t help, just “google it”! You’ll find something that you can use that you already have. Intention, intention, intention!

For the carrier oil, both Sweet Almond and Jojoba work beautifully, but Apricot Kernel Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, or even Olive Oil can be used in a pinch. The energy of the blend comes from your intention as much as the ingredients themselves.
If Bergamot isn’t available, try a drop of Grapefruit or Tangerine essential oil for a similar bright, uplifting quality. Or just add another drop of Sweet Orange. Looking for extra confidence and personal power? A tiny amount of Ginger essential oil can add a fiery solar boost.
Don’t have Citrine? Consider substituting Sunstone for confidence and vitality, Clear Quartz for amplification, or Yellow Calcite for optimism and motivation.
Remember, magical recipes are rarely about perfection. They are about working with what you have, setting a clear intention, and creating something meaningful. The most important ingredient in any blend is the energy you bring to it.
