Potion bottle with glowing herbs on stone table in ancient ruin under moonlight

There are days when life feels heavy. Maybe you’re carrying around stress from work, replaying a difficult conversation in your mind, or holding onto fears and old stories that no longer belong in your life. We’ve all been there. That’s exactly why I created Moonlight Oil.

Despite its name, Moonlight Oil isn’t just for the Full Moon. While it’s wonderful to use during Full Moon release rituals, I wanted an oil I could use whenever life felt overwhelming. After all, stress doesn’t wait for the lunar calendar. Sometimes we need a little help letting go on an ordinary Tuesday afternoon.

Moonlight Oil was created to support release, healing, and renewal. It’s a gentle reminder that we don’t have to carry yesterday’s worries into tomorrow.

If you’re the kind of person who loves making your own magical tools, I think you’ll have fun creating this blend. But if DIY isn’t your thing, no worries! I handcraft Moonlight Oil in small batches, and it’s available in my Etsy shop, Magik Muse Shop 444. Whether you decide to make your own or let me make it for you, I hope that it becomes a beautiful part of your spiritual practice.

I won’t clutter this post with exact measurements because I’d rather keep our conversation focused on the magic behind the blend. It’s an easy reference to keep in your apothecary or tuck into your Book of Shadows.

More Than Just a Pretty Bottle

One of my favorite things about creating magical oils is choosing each ingredient with intention. Every herb, flower, crystal, and essential oil contributes something unique to the blend. Together, they create an energy greater than the sum of their individual ingredients.

Here’s what each ingredient brings to Moonlight Oil:

  • Lavender Essential Oil – Encourages peace, relaxation, and emotional healing while quieting an overactive mind.
  • Rosemary Essential Oil – Clears mental fog, sharpens focus, and helps release stagnant energy.
  • Frankincense Essential Oil – Deepens spiritual connection, raises your vibration, and encourages inner wisdom.
  • Lavender Buds – Promote calm, comfort, and a sense of emotional balance.
  • Mugwort – Enhances intuition, spiritual awareness, and dream work.
  • Jasmine Flowers – Symbolize hope, healing, joy, and the promise of new beginnings.
  • Juniper Berries – Traditionally used for cleansing, protection, and releasing unwanted energy.
  • Moonstone Chips – Support emotional healing, intuition, and embracing life’s natural cycles.
  • Clear Quartz Chips – Amplify the energy and intention of every other ingredient in the bottle.
  • Silver Mica Powder – Adds a beautiful moonlit shimmer while serving as a reminder of the light that’s always present, even during life’s darkest moments.

Each ingredient was carefully chosen to support the same intention: releasing what no longer serves you so you can heal, renew, and move forward with a lighter heart.

Begin with a Clean Slate

Before I ever open a bottle or reach for my herbs, I spend a few minutes cleansing both my workspace and the bottle I’ll be using. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, but I do believe it’s one of the most important parts of creating any magical tool.

Sometimes I light incense. Sometimes I ring a bell or use a cleansing spray. Other times, I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths, and imagine brilliant white light filling the room. There isn’t one “right” way to do it. The purpose is to clear away yesterday’s energy so you can begin creating with today’s intention.

Think of it this way… if you’re making something designed to clear energy, it makes sense to begin with a clean energetic slate.

Missing an Ingredient? Don’t Let That Stop You!

One of the questions I get asked most often is, “What if I don’t have everything on the ingredient list?”

Don’t worry! Magical crafting isn’t about following a recipe to the letter. It’s about understanding the purpose behind each ingredient and working with what you have. Here are the substitutions I recommend:

  • Jojoba Oil → Sweet Almond Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, or Grapeseed Oil all make excellent carrier oils.
  • Lavender Essential Oil → Chamomile or Clary Sage are lovely calming alternatives.
  • Rosemary Essential Oil → Cypress is my first choice if you have it. Juniper essential oil also works beautifully for cleansing and clearing.
  • Frankincense Essential Oil → Myrrh or Cedarwood can be used if Frankincense isn’t available, although Frankincense is still my favorite for this blend.
  • Lavender Buds → Dried chamomile flowers make a wonderful substitute for their peaceful, calming energy.
  • Mugwort → Jasmine flowers can enhance intuition, or use a small pinch of rosemary for clarity and spiritual focus.
  • Jasmine Flowers → Calendula petals make a beautiful substitute, bringing hope, healing, and renewal to the blend.
  • Juniper Berries → A drop or two of juniper essential oil or a small pinch of rosemary will provide similar cleansing energy.
  • Moonstone Chips → Selenite, Clear Quartz, or Opalite all complement the intention of release and renewal.
  • Clear Quartz Chips → Place a Clear Quartz point or tumble beside the bottle while it infuses. If you don’t have quartz at all, trust your intention instead.
  • Silver Mica Powder → Feel free to leave it out. It’s there to add a soft, moonlit shimmer and doesn’t affect the oil’s energetic properties.

Don’t let a missing ingredient keep you from creating something beautiful. The best magical tools aren’t the ones with the longest ingredient list—they’re the ones you actually make and use. Trust your intuition, work with what you have, and remember that your intention is the most powerful ingredient in every bottle.

Ways to Use Moonlight Oil

One of the reasons I love this blend so much is that there isn’t a wrong way to use it. Of course, it’s perfect for dressing a candle before a Full Moon release ritual, but that’s just the beginning.

I often place a drop on my wrists before meditation or journaling. If I’m doing a tarot reading, I’ll anoint my hands beforehand as a reminder to release expectations and trust my intuition. Sometimes I’ll add a drop to a piece of Clear Quartz on my altar, and other times I’ll hold the bottle, close my eyes, and breathe deeply for a few moments.

Moonlight Oil can also become part of your everyday self-care routine. Use it whenever you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or ready to let go of an old habit. Every use becomes a small ritual of choosing peace over fear and possibility over limitation.

Blessing Your Moonlight Oil

Once your bottle is finished, don’t rush to put it away. This is my favorite part of the entire process because it’s the moment your intention becomes part of the blend.

Hold the bottle between your hands and close your eyes. Take three slow, deep breaths, imagining the oil filling with soft silver light. Then say:

There’s no need for fancy words. The most powerful blessings are the ones spoken from the heart.

Final Thoughts

People sometimes ask me if Moonlight Oil is magical. I always smile because I think they’re asking the wrong question.

The real magic isn’t in the bottle. The oil becomes a physical reminder that you’re ready to release what no longer serves you and make space for something better. The real magic comes from the intention you bring while making it and the choice you make every time you use it.

Whether you decide to create your own or bring home one of my handcrafted bottles from Magik Muse Shop 444, I hope this blend helps you release what no longer belongs, embrace new beginnings, and remember that healing is always possible.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have another batch of Moonlight Oil waiting to be bottled!
